SDOSS Meeting for April: Xen: One Box, many Virtual Machines! (HTML)

From: Richard Gray

For Immediate Release:

There are many reasons for using several computers. Task need to be isolated
services from each other for security or for conveniences. Also if one
machine crashes the other will keep running.

The common PC today is 10 times more powerful than its predecessor. However,
many of the services, like Mail, WEB, or Printing have about the same
overhead as a few years ago.

Follow along in this series of articles as the IBM® Internet Technology Group designs, develops, and deploys an extranet Web site for a fictitious company, International Business Council (IBC), using a suite of freely available software. In this article, you learn to use the taxonomy system in Drupal to provide structure to your Web site. The structure can then be used to support navigation and organization of your content.

Introduction

One of the flexible features of Drupal is its taxonomy system. It provides the ability to structure your Web site; you can then use that structure to support organization and navigation. Many people say this is one of the features that helps distinguish Drupal from other content management systems.

Taxonomy. From the Greek meaning "to classify." In the past, taxonomy was just the science of classifying living organisms, but later, was applied in a wider sense. It may also refer to either a classification of things, or the principles underlying the classification.

Drupal News - Teleconference for Drupal Developers on March 17th

Develiconference: Moved to March 17th due to SXSW

Robin Monks - February 15, 2007 - 20:00

I'm happy to announce that the second (annual?) Drupal "Develiconfernece" has been scheduled for March 10th. Once again we'll be offering the chance for the Drupal development community to make presentations to the community, and for new Drupal users to pose questions to the old hands.

There will be a few improvements this time, namely, the beeps that plagued the last call have been zapped, and we'll have a hand-raising feature for this call that should allow participants to ask their questions live. Once again the call will be recorded and made available on drupal.org. And of course Skype should be more stable now as well (even ChX has found his mic amplifier setting by now).

The exact time on the 10th the conference will be held, and all the speakers have not yet been finalized. This time, I'd like to give more of a chance for community input. What do you what to happen in this develiconference?

Please comment on what times would be best for you, and if you have an interesting topic you want to give to the community.

After 8 months of development we are ready to release Drupal 5.0 to the world. Today is also Drupal's 6th birthday, so the timing could not be more perfect. Drupal 4.0 was released in 2002 and finally we feel confident to increase the major version number from 4 to 5.

phpSecureSite

Oldy but Goody

phpSecureSite is a modular authentication and session-handling system for PHP, released under the GNU GPL license. It is primarily intended for use in closed web-applications, where users are required to enter a username and password to gain access. It is made to be fully integrated with the web-application, so that users will not notice that you are using a separate authentication and session system. This means that you must code the front-end (such as login screens) yourself. More information can be found on the about page.
